FREE REVIEW TAGS FROM A SCAN
Tag what does not belong. Build the list as you go.
Run a 5S sort with a phone: scan each item or location, note why it needs review, print a tag and finish the walk with a red tag list as a CSV.
Free to use. No account, email address or trial. Works offline once prepared.

Fictional values from an example walk. A review tag records an observation; it does not hold stock or approve anything.
MADE FOR THE FLOORFor lean and continuous improvement leads, team leaders and supervisors running a 5S sort in a workshop, stores or production area.
A USEFUL STARTING POINT
The tag and the log should say the same thing
In a sort, each red tag usually needs a matching line in a log, written up afterwards from handwriting. TagBench creates both at once: the scanned code, location, reason and note go on the printed tag and into the review list. The PDF is printed in dark ink with no coloured background, so it stays readable on a black-and-white printer. If your site uses red tags, print it on red card or attach it to your usual tag.
FROM QUESTION TO EVIDENCE
Three steps to a useful result.
- 01
Scan what you find
Scan the item's barcode or the location label, or type a code. Scanning only fills the identifier, so a repeated scan never creates a tag by itself.
- 02
Give the reason
Choose Review storage, Identify item, Packaging damage or Other observation, add where it was found and write a short note, for example why it may not be needed.
- 03
Tag it and move on
Download the 100 × 150 mm tag or an A4 sheet and print it. At the end of the walk, download the review list as a CSV for your red tag log.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLEOne sort, one list
A team leader sorts the maintenance stores. Bin 004120 holds fittings nobody recognises: Identify item, with the note "No part number, not used since March". A pallet in bay 3 sits across the walkway: Review storage. After 14 tags, the CSV has one row for each tag, with the code, location, reason, note and time, ready for the 5S review meeting.
USED IN PRODUCTION
From a tag on the floor to a fix at the source.
TagBench records what someone noticed. When the same finding keeps coming back, such as items without the right label or offcuts nobody can identify, two SmartFACT services deal with the cause. Both are in early access, with scope agreed at onboarding.
LabelRules
If walks keep finding items without the right label, the fix is usually where the label is made. LabelRules turns label rules you describe in plain English into approved rules that select and check each job's label automatically before printing.
RemnantRack
If the unidentified material is offcuts on the racks, RemnantRack gives every reusable piece a label, an exact measured length and a confirmed bin, so the next job can find it instead of cutting new stock.
BEFORE YOU START
A few practical answers.
Does TagBench decide what to keep or throw away?
No. The reason says why something needs review; the decision belongs to your 5S review and your site's procedure. When it is made, add a new revision that records the outcome, or mark the tag Archived locally.
Can I record who tagged it and when?
Each revision records the time it was created, from this device's clock, on the tag and in the CSV. There is no name field or sign-in, so add initials to the note if your log needs them.
Can several people tag the same area?
Each person works on their own device with their own list. There is no shared list or sync, so combine the downloaded CSV files in a spreadsheet afterwards.
What are the current limits?
TagBench records informal observations. A tag does not hold stock, isolate a machine, approve use, authorise disposal or raise a maintenance request, and Reviewed here and Archived locally are your own notes, not decisions. There are no photos, shared lists, email, assignments or follow-up: one person works on a project, on one device. The QR code holds a local reference, not a link, so it opens a tag only where that project is loaded. A project holds up to 500 tags, 20 revisions per tag and 2,000 revisions in total. Identifiers can be up to 128 characters, descriptions and locations 160 and notes 500. The four review reasons are fixed. A note too long for the 100 × 150 mm tag stops that download with a message, so choose A4. The camera reads Code 128, QR, Data Matrix, EAN and UPC barcodes; for other symbols use a keyboard scanner or type the code. The review CSV adds an apostrophe before text a spreadsheet could treat as a formula; the project backup keeps exact values.
What happens to my data?
Your tags stay in this browser. A temporary session keeps them in memory only while the tab is open; Save on this device keeps them between visits. Nothing you scan or write is uploaded, and camera images are decoded on your device and never stored. No account or contact details are needed to make tags or download them. Google Analytics is optional and loads only after you accept; it never receives identifiers, notes, locations or file contents. Use Analytics settings, or Change preference in the tool, to change your choice; see /privacy/.
